Practical Nursing Program

Program Description

The Practical Nursing Program is a twelve month course of instruction designed to prepare the individual for employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse by providing the theoretical knowledge and clinical competence to obtain licensure, and the standard of professionalism necessary for the successful practice of practical nursing.

This program has received the approval of the Florida Board of Nursing and graduates of this program are eligible to take the state licensure examination to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN). Licensure is required for employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Profession Overview
Occupational Profile. A Licensed practical Nurse (LPN) cares for people who are sick, injured, convalescent, or disabled under the direction of Physicians and Registered Nurses. Most LPNs are generalists and will work in any area of healthcare. However, some work in a specialized setting, such as a nursing home, a doctor’s office, clinic, in the prison system or in home healthcare.

Special Requirements

  • All program candidates must undergo a criminal background/abuse check. Candidates with a criminal record may not be eligible for entry into the nursing programs.
  • Upon successful completion of this program, you will then be eligible to sit for the state NCLEX–PN exam.
  • It is necessary that students have reliable transportation to all of the assigned hospitals and clinical sites.
  • Upon acceptance into the program, proof of immunization, including TB testing is required.
  • All students are required to perform community service hours prior to completion of the program.
