Course Description

This course will provide students an overview of anatomy and physiology and the cardiovascular system as they prepare to challenge the EKG competency exam. The student will also learn clinical procedures necessary to complete an EKG including the steps necessary to prepare reports for hospitals and doctor’s offices.

Profession Overview

Once you have successfully passed your licensure exam you are able to work as a Certified EKG Technician (CET). As a CET you are able to work in hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics, and nursing facilities to perform EKG tests on patients. Your will be interacting with patients and staff as you set-up and administer the EKG.

Entrance Requirements

• Complete Enrollment Form – Non-Credit Courses
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• At least 18 years old
• Sign Program Policy form

Certification

Once a student has completed this course they will have the option to apply for the exam to become a Certified EKG Technician (CET) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Prior to applying for the exam, students must complete 12 EKG leads and supply documentation with their application.

Testing Site

Taylor College is a testing site for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Students who submit their application and testing fee into the NHA can take the certification exam at the college.

Class Schedule

1st Week – Theory

2nd Week – Theory and Practice

Study Guide

Students should have an active email on file with the college; Study Guides will be emailed to students prior to the first day of class. Students should bring Study Guides with them on the first day of class.

Homework/Study

Students should be prepared to perform 1 – 2 hours of studying per day.

Dress Code

Students are required to wear scrubs during the second week of class. Students wishing to perform the 12 EKG leads required for certification will also be required to wear scrubs during their time at a facility while performing the required 12 EKG leads.

ID Badges

If a student wishes to perform the 12 EKGs required for certification a student must have an ID Badge. ID Badges are purchased by the student and are valid for 30-days from the start of the class.

Facility

To be eligible for the certification exam, students must complete 12 EKG leads at a facility that is authorized to allow you to conduct this procedure.

• It is the student’s responsibility to contact a facility to schedule time to perform the required 12 EKG leads.
• While performing at the facility the student must wear scrubs or follow the facilities dress code.
• While you are at the facility you must adhere to the HIPAA privacy policies.
• The student is responsible for any actions while in attendance at the facility.

It is the student’s responsibility to get documentation from a facility showing that you have completed the required number of EKG leads. This documentation must be submitted with your application to take the certification exam.

Non-Credit Courses

Students will receive hands-on education through the guidance of qualified faculty, practice, and theory; all reinforced with interaction with professionals in specialized industries.

Policy for Short-Term courses of 40-hours or less

No refund will be given for continuing education, professional development, non-credit courses, Entrance Exams.
