The official search has ended and a mascot design for Taylor College has finally arrived. “We are no longer mascot-less,” said April Shepard, Community Liaison for the College.

“TAGE”

After months of deliberation, careful planning along with student and community survey’s- a final decision was made. The students, staff, faculty and community members were encouraged last semester to participate in a public survey asking what they would like to see represent the College with both school spirit and Team Taylor events. Each submission also needed to include what the design would look like, be named and reasons “why” their design should represent the College. They were invited to submit their ideas and reasons for their selection for the final decisions by November 1st.

After the suggestions were tallied, the Taylor College Mascot design was chosen to be a Lion, with the name of “TAGE”. Our creative student body along with alumni members engendered the name of the mascot, “TAGE” with a columniation of the first two letters of Taylor and the last two letters of College. Very clever and imaginative, the committee accepted the idea and ran with it.

“Our mascot represents strength, team pride, school spirit and embodies the incredible spirit, passion, and strength that is Taylor College,” stated Diana Hammond, College President. “The College is eager to begin incorporating the design within our marketing materials as well as utilizing the mascot as an additional representation of the College for our community members to easily recognize Taylor College,” Hammond added.

“Those students, staff, faculty and community members have all participated in the next era of Taylor College pride,” Shepard stated.

The search for a Taylor College Mascot has begun. Take the survey on this news link and partake in Taylor College history.

I’ve had the opportunity to meet and speak with a great number of students and alumni over the last few months since I arrived on campus. In nearly every conversation I heard a strong sentiment wanting a mascot for Taylor College. (For outsiders, we are mascot-less!) We do not have an official mascot or graphical representation for use with school spirit and Team Taylor events.

After all of these conversations, it became extremely clear that this is a terrific time to undertake a search for an official mascot for Taylor College. Who’s with me?!

We don’t know what shape our mascot will take. It could be an animal, human, vegetable, or even a mythical creature. But, we do know that its name and image should embody the incredible spirit, passion, and strength that is Taylor College!

Help us shape Taylor College history by submitting your suggestions for the new mascot. Review the mascot requirements and guidelines, put on your thinking caps, and send in your suggestions after Thanksgiving break. Submissions will be accepted until November 1st. We want all your ideas- from fierce, fire-breathing animals, to fuzzy, fun-loving creatures. Just be sure to include your rationale and reasoning for why you think your idea will make the perfect mascot for Taylor College and fuel fresh school pride. Submit drawings and/or videos to get your point across. Let’s show how creative our Taylor College community is!

Keep watching our Website and Facebook page for regular updates throughout this process. I hope you’re as excited as I am to embark on this journey. I’m looking forward to being a part of the next era of Taylor College pride!
